Lucy Wairimu Macharia is a graduate of Bachelor of Education (Special Education) from Kenyatta University, one of the premier university in Kenya. She is an experienced administrator in; Special education, gender training, policy development and has review and implementation skills in networking and collaboration, advocacy and lobbying for disability management and mainstreaming. Being a person with a disability, Lucy is registered with the National Council for Persons with Disabilities in Kenya. Prior to dedicating to work for Embrace Inclusion, She has previously worked for Disabled Persons Organizations (DPOs) such as Women Challenged to Challenge (WCC) to Champion for Rights of Women and Girls with Disabilities, United Disability Empowerment in Kenya (UDEK), and for Kilimani Integrated Programme for the Visually Impaired to provide itinerant Services in Nairobi Schools with children with Disabilities. As a trained special education teacher and consultant, Lucy worked as a teacher for ten years at Thika Primary School for the blind and as the Deputy Director Kenya Institute for the Blind from 2002 to 2004. She has served as a board member of Thika District Education Board and served at the executive Board of Governors at Chania Girls High School Thika. Working for Embrace Inclusion has ignited an interest and passion she has always had for Persons with Disabilities, given that she is a visually impaired woman. She has inborn interest working for and with persons with disabilities such that she has attended many  short courses, workshops, forums and trainings to champion her vision of disability mainstreaming in all spheres of life for a sustainable inclusive society.
